CW 33 2002

14.08.2002 - 17.08.2002

After 25 hours of traveling, after being back home for 3 ½ months, we arrive here in Trinidad today, August 14, 9pm.
Jesse James (the good spirit at Maxi Taxi Service) is awaiting us at the airport somewhat longingly - after all, our plane is more than an hour late.
Another half hour drive and off to the hotel and straight to bed we go. We need to be well rested by tomorrow - there's a lot to do.
On Thursday we already meet old friends again, Julia, Ute and Erich (Julia's). Over a cup of coffee we quickly exchange the latest news, postponing everything else because it's time for us to go. The moment of truth has come - we're going to the wharf.
We're practically on our way out as another familiar face shows up: our friend Blackmouth from Tobago. We'd invited him for a few days, but apparently he couldn't wait - he's a day early. So the three of us take a Maxi Taxi to the wharf in which SILVER BLUE is standing.
The name of the wharf that is specialised on catamarans and that has been advising and serving us very well is Aikane Trinidad Limited.
Here's a special thanks to Hervé Buisson and Phillippe Richard who, together with their team, did a great job for us.
On our first inspection tour we take a look at the work that was done and are very pleased with it, even though we find a few things that weren't done.
There's still a lot to talk about, to organize and also to do, but one thing is for sure: we'll be back in the water on Friday!
In the evening we meet with Julia's for a beer and that will be it for the day, since we have to get up early on Friday - SILVER BLUE is going back into the water. High tide will be at 9.30am and that's when we can get started.
Around 10am the main street is closed off for a few minutes and the traffic is stopped so we can be towed to the water.

Two wharf workers get off board at the last minute and just 15 minutes later we're back in the water and our good girl is afloat again.
We're being expected at Crews Inn, 2 miles around the corner, and moor there.
There would definitely have been something to tell about every single day, but, as unbelievable as this may sound to some of you, the following days will all be the same: we'll be working! Since we don't want to do that to you, and it doesn't really make sense either, we won't tell you about it.
So day after day pass with work, excitement, surprises and new jobs.

On Sunday, August 25, we finally get round to going on a short test-cruise to test the work done on the rig. One place still needs a little adjustment, but besides that everything is in good condition again.
Good work form Niels Lund and his crew at the Budget Marine Rigging!
Originally we wanted to stop for a cool beer at Scotland Bay on our way back, but we discover that the anchor winding is broken, so we return to the marina. A cool carib (Caribbean beer) also tastes good here.
On Monday we find out that there's nothing we can do for about our anchor winding and getting a new one will keep us in Trinidad for at least another week.
Therefore we'll be experiencing Trinidads 40th Independence Day on August 31.
That means, that, if everything goes well, we'll be leaving for Venezuela on September 3, at the latest.
So, have a good time, take care, and - if you like - we'll see you here again next week:
same time, same place!

So long

Diana + Thomas
