CW 22 2004

24.05. - 30.05.2004

We spend most of the week in the Baie d` Anaho, one of the Marquesas most beautiful bays. Here you can watch Manta rays play, watch tortoises "raze", or just enjoy the magnificent surroundings, just like the "Freebirds" at our side.

   Baie d` Anaho

The entire wide bay belongs to a single family who live in a few small houses here and who also opened a rather basic bed-and-breakfast, which can only be reached by foot or, from the next bay, by boat. Their most valuable possession - which also earns their income - are countless, beautifully grown, coconut palm trees.

At the end of the week we take our leave and whisper a quiet "apa-nui" (marquesi for: good-bye). We travel along the islands eastern side to return to Taihoe.

Of course, we let the fishing rod trail behind us again. Coming here we already caught an impressive Yellow-Fin-Tuna and this time the line also runs out soon. Seems to be quite a fellow - he almost drags out the entire line. So I reel in and reel in and finally I get to see my pray: another beautiful Yellow-Fin.
But, my pray was also targeted by one of the numerous sharks living in these waters and after he took one huge bite I was left with only the head - for fish-soup…
What a shark will leave of a Yellowtail

After that we get heavy rains and wind blowing with up to 35 knots. Seems like it's not one of our best days …
… but, we'll tell you more about all the beautiful days in paradise, right here, next week.

Until then … take care!
