11.04. - 24.04. 2005

We're still enjoying the beautiful island Aitutaki for a few more days, exploring its fantastic lagoon with the dinghy - the pacific ocean at its best. And Antoine is especially enjoying life on the beach.

We weigh anchor on Thursday, with destination Palmerston Atoll, one of the few places that are hardly ever visited and where you're still supposed to be greeted with real enthusiasm. The weather forecast is favorable which is very important since one can only stay anchored outside of the reef in reasonable safety during easterly winds. But the latest forecasts, reaching us while we're on our way, are a lot less favorable. There are storms approaching from the west that would also jeopardize our further, westerly route to Niue and Tonga.
Therefore we sail towards the north again, from 19 degrees south to 13 degrees south - and only then do we sail west again.
Here we also pass through a few convergence zones that bring us rather mix weather: heavy rainfalls and strong winds and then light winds with magnificent sunsets.

During nice weather our apprentice sailor takes the rudder - and if the weather turns bad, one can also play very nicely in the salon.

Our new destination is the island Samoa and that's from where we'll have more to tell next week.

Until then … take care!
