CW 10 2003

03.03. - 09.03.2003

The week takes its usual course, beginning daily with two hours of Spanish lessons. Many of you will think I get those lessons from a beautiful Columbian woman whose efforts will definitely enlarge my knowledge of the Spanish language. Well, I get my lessons from Amauri, a real professor. And since he's never been on a sailing boat before - except for my lessons - I invite him and his wife to a trip to Bocacica on the weekend. By Sunday they have become quite a large group and at 8 in the morning I welcome the professor and his wife, their children, a friend of theirs with child, Luznela with her friend Lorena, Liljana and Leonardo (to whose wedding I was invited) and their dog Tiquilla aboard SILVER BLUE.

Since there's no wind in the Bay of Cartagena we slowly motor to Bocacica. The narrow concrete entrance is highly frequented today: first two large container ships have to pass, leaving no room for us. As we finally aim for the entrance plenty of children paddle to us, offering fresh fish.
But, since we've already shopped for a picnic, we don't do any business with them today.

We find ourselves a nice anchoring spot in the shade of the old Spanish fortress buildings. As the anchor drops the fun of finally swimming in clear water again begins.
Of course that makes you hungry. The children are already waiting expectantly and mountains of bread, ham, cheese, sausage and fresh fruit are piled onto the table. Hmmmm, that tastes good. Afterwards SILVER BLUE looks as though a busload of Italians had been visiting (everything is full of crumbs) but what does that matter - it will easily be washed away again once we're back in the harbor.
After everything has been put away again everybody retires into some corner for a siesta. And there's room enough.
We make our way back to Cartagena in the late afternoon, drop anchor in the harbor and spontaneously start a party. With cool cerveza and music - probably enough to fill the entire bay - we dance and laugh and happily let the week come to an end.

More about the next week, soon, if you like …
Until then, take care
