SILVER BLUE still has its mooring place at the Club Nautico, consisting of two landings in the secluded bay of Cartagena.
A boat neighbour called Ernando just recently bought himself a Bindö 31, made in a Swedish wharf that had been lying in Panama, abandoned for years. The ship is already 25 years old, but underneath the dirt it's in good shape. I give Ernando a remedy from my "poison kitchen" and his yellowed deck becomes bright white again. He is thrilled, and during the week he continuously comes over with equipment that has spent many years on that ship.

Among other things he found an island shaped lifeboat - and its last inspection was 15 years ago. The islands container is already starting to fall apart so the rescue island probably won't be in a much better condition. Will it work? There's only one way to find out. So, before the thing gets thrown away, we drag it onto the landing and pull the release string. It starts hissing and - imagine that - inflating. Ok, it is loosing air, but still … and, there is still a lot of emergency equipment in it.
This week the ceremonial reopening of the Pegasus Wharf, an anchoring place in the heart of Cartagena, where the slaves from Africa used to arrive in the olden days, is also taking place. After a long time of construction the two impressive winged horses can be admired again. Maestro Hector Lombana created the Pegasus.
For the weekend I'm finally going out to sea again, to do some sailing and go swimming nicely. So I leave the bay of Cartagena and go past the Castillo de San Fernando. The Castillo lies at today's only entrance to this large natural harbor. A second entrance was simply closed with a wall by the Spaniards, the underwater wall assisting in the defense of Cartagena. The amazing thing is that the Castillo de San Fernando is connected to the Castillo de San Fernando by a 12 km long tunnel.

Late on Sunday evening SILVER BLUE finds it marked way back to the harbor - and what happened in the next week … you can read about that here again, if you like.

Until then, take care
